University of Waikato Campus Walks

View on map
University of Waikato, Knighton Road, Hamilton
The University of Waikato campus provides a variety of great short walks in Hamilton City; from tranquil lakeside walks to garden strolls and a fitness trail.

Lakeside Walks

The lakes based on campus at the University of Waikato provide three peaceful lakeside walking trails. With collections of plants from the Waikato Basin, grouping of native podocarpus, a Magnolia grove and a collection of exotic trees, the Lakeside walks are a great short walk option.

Garden Walks

Most beautiful in spring, when the flowering cherries are in full bloom and the dwarf Japanese maples provide a rich colouring, the University of Waikato Garden Walk takes in the Japanese gardens, Chapel lake banks and more.

Fitness Trail and 5km Route

Perfect for those looking to increase their fitness level, the Fitness Trail includes four sets of activities, each designed to work different body parts including step ups, vertical jumps, parallel bars and chin ups. A longer 5km route can also be used to extend the fitness trail, which is regularly used for a Campus Fun Run event during the summer months.
