An easy trail situated in the heart of Hamilton City, the Hamilton Lake Domain Walkway is popular with both runners and walkers alike.

Covering 3.8km, the Hamilton Lake (also known as Lake Rotoroa) walkway includes varied natural lakeside vegetation, grassed parklands perfect for a picnic, a boardwalk section, playgrounds and a café. The walkway is mostly flat making it suitable for pushchairs and is also a popular dog walking spot.

Birdlife also flourishes in the Hamilton Lake area with ducks, pukeko, geese and other birdlife all easily spotted around the lake.

Sands Carving Studio

Carve Your Own Kōuma

Carve your own traditional Māori pendant - the kōuma: a breastplate. This workshop is designed for entry-level carvers with next to no carving experience, and will take up to 4 - 6 hours. In this workshop, we will cover the cultural history of the form, the tools and skills necessary for stone-carving and will guide participants through the process of creating a pounamu kōuma. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a fully completed and bound kōuma to take home.

Avantidrome

Avantidrome – guided tour

Discover Waikato’s world class facility, centered around a purpose built 250m wooden with a guided tour. A great opportunity to learn about the history of the Avantidrome and find out more about the facilities and programmes we have on offer. While you are here, grab yourself a spot in the stands and watch New Zealand’s track cyclists train or perhaps rub shoulders with one of the Waikato/BOP Magic players or All Blacks Sevens team in the tunnel. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some of New Zealand’s Olympic heroes hanging around. Avantidrome Tours take place on a weekly basis. Private bookings of a minimum of 10 persons welcome outside designated tour times.
