However, it was the mighty Waikato river, woodland walks and verdant fields, home to New Zealand’s pre-eminent thoroughbred horse industry that drew us in. Following the devastating 2011 ‘quakes, we missed hosting and felt that this new ‘Hadleigh’ was really quite superb, a place we would be proud to share with our guests.

Bruntwood Lodge is a 3-bedroom Bed & Breakfast situated in peaceful rural surroundings of Cambridge, offering adult-only accommodation with electronic 24-hour access, free WIFI and ample parking. Each of the three luxurious guest rooms has been carefully designed and appointed to ensure your stay is comfortable and relaxing – with customised king-size beds, and includes complimentary breakfast, toiletries, slippers, dressing gown, luxurious towels and a hairdryer for your use. Each air-conditioned room includes en-suite with shower, toilet, vanity, and a TV in each room. Horses and cows graze in the paddocks, yet Bruntwood Lodge is in close proximity to Cambridge city, Hamilton Airport, Mystery Creek Events Centre and the Avantidome.

The original homestead was known in the area for the beautiful cottage gardens and specimen trees. There are some beautiful examples of a hundred plus year old Kauri, Copper beech and magnificent magnolia trees which the tui love to visit. During its history, there have been many families live in the villa with each generation adding their love and attention to the property. The bedrooms that are lovingly restored are named from the families or significant aspects of its history. There are many Victorian features in the villa including original tiled fireplaces, polished floors, leadlight windows and doors and high ceilings. Fully renovated June 2019.
