There are several walking tracks nearby including the internationally significant Maungatautari Ecological Island Reserve which features a 16 metre high forest canopy viewing tower, a 600 year old rata and flourishing native species.

The quaint settlement of Cambridge is close by. We were particularly drawn to the areas natural beauty, as was Peter Jackson when he chose to film his magical Hobbits here. However, it was the mighty Waikato river, woodland walks and verdant fields, home to New Zealand’s pre-eminent thoroughbred horse industry that drew us in. Following the devastating 2011 ‘quakes, we missed hosting and felt that this new ‘Hadleigh’ was really quite superb, a place we would be proud to share with our guests.
