Hamilton, New Zealand - Kirikiriroa (1 Oct, 2025) – It’s nearing time for Waikato to meet the world! New Zealand’s newest venue, the Waikato Regional Theatre, is officially opening its doors on January 19. 

A huge week of opening events will kick off with three days of community opening celebrations titled To The Stars/ Ki ngā Whetū built through the hands, voices and imaginations of the Waikato community. This is followed by the official launch evening on January 23 and closing out with one of Aotearoa’s most beloved and awarded artists, the legendary Sir Dave Dobbyn on his Selected Songs Tour.

Venue Manager Michael Gilling said, “As this world-class venue continues to take shape, we are excited to welcome the amazing artists and shows that will take the stage in January and we can’t wait get fans through the doors to experience the magic of live for themselves.”
 
Ross Hargood, Chairman of the Waikato Regional Property Trust said, “We are thrilled to see a strong opening programme, showcasing the best of the Waikato’s creativity alongside international and domestic stars. After many years of work, investment and perseverance the community should be proud of themselves for getting to this point. Roll on opening night!”
