Tiaki Promise

  1. Industry
  2. Regenerative and Sustainable Tourism
  3. Tiaki Promise

Tiaki Promise - Commitment to Care for New Zealand, for now and for future generations.

Tiaki – Care for New Zealand was created through a collective national desire to share a connection to the natural world, inspiring and helping visitors to travel safely and conscientiously through New Zealand, while also educating tourism businesses about how to care for people and place through their own activities.

How to introduce Tiaki into your business

An underlying Kaupapa of the Waikato Destination Management Plan (DMP) is to provide a more sustainable, regenerative, and resilient destination. Across each priority area there are individual actions to implement, specifically in this case; enabling our sector to embrace The Tiaki Promise which aligns to this principle. While the Tiaki Promise is aimed at educating manuhiri, it also involves encouraging tourism operators to ensure their operations have as light of a footprint as possible and positively impacts the environment and community.

Guide your Team

Your team plays an important role in the manaaki of visitors to New Zealand. They are hosts, guides, and representatives for us all. By ensuring they are well-versed in the meaning and intent of Tiaki, you are helping them bring it to life for our visitors.

Show Tiaki at your place

You can find printable and digital collateral such as posters, table talkers, decals, and t-shirt designs in the Tiaki assets HERE.  Print what you need and show your visitors that you support the Tiaki kaupapa.

Share your commitment

Show your followers that you support the Tiaki kaupapa by sharing a personalised photo or video out to your channels. Be sure to include #tiakipromise to join the conversation.

Bring the principles of Tiaki to life

By caring for the nature and communities that you operate in you are bringing the principles of tiakitanga to life. This can include things such as volunteer days, pest trapping, clean-ups, or school visits. Think about how you can contribute to a regenerative tourism sector and how you might share that story with your guests.
