While emergency services exist to provide an immediate response to adverse situations, the onus cannot be solely placed on them to be prepared for these occurrences. By developing a comprehensive plan, you can be prepared to effectively respond to emergencies, minimise risks, and protect people, property, and the event itself.
Emergency management plans should include:
- a risk assessment and management plan (link to or reference within)
- an emergency management team (roles and responsibilities, authority and command structure should be clear)
- an emergency communications plan (ensure the required communication tools are provided, and people are trained to use them)
- emergency procedures for each type of emergency (including evacuation procedures and post-emergency procedures)
- relevant references and resources (site maps, emergency contacts, flowcharts, checklists etc).
