04 November 2022: BOON boosts suburban pride with fresh fun street art

Artists from Hamilton, Aotearoa and around the world will bring the love to Hamilton’s often undervalued suburb of Dinsdale, from 25th-27th November, as part of the 7th Boon Street Art Festival.

On Friday 25th and Saturday 26th, Boon will host a family-friendly festival experience at the Dinsdale shops, with food trucks, stalls, and performances from local schools including Fraser High and Rhode Street School. A vibrant line-up of artists will be hard at work transforming bland walls into dazzling murals. New Boon artworks will also be surprising and delighting the public in the CBD.

"Boon brings, fun, energy, creativity and aroha - we invite everyone to come and watch us paint during the festival weekend and enjoy the vibe,” says Hamilton Arts Trust Chair Iain White.

Boon Street Art Festival is honoured to be invited to Dinsdale by community groups focused on the area’s revitalisation.

“Boon is excited about connecting communities with art. Local advocates in Dinsdale made the noise; Boon got the nudge and here we are, getting it done!” says Festival Director Craig McClure.

Boon has been talking with Dinsdale locals, to hear their thoughts and keep them in the loop.

"From the conversations we've been having in Dinsdale, it's clear that there's so much love and pride in the area. The new murals are our way of celebrating this and making it visible.” says Boon Co-founder Paul Bradley.

Along with the blessing of Mayor Paula Southgate as part of the city strategy to beautify the area, Boon’s contribution to Dinsdale’s renewal is supported by their sponsors, including Foster Construction, Hamilton City Council and Resene Paints.

This year’s participating artists are: Koryu Aoshima, Tony Diaz, Chimp, Pounamu Wharekawa, Elliot Mason, Paul Darragh, Te Marunui Hotene, Stephen Templer, Zarna Torpey, Brya Rose, Limitbreak and Garreth and Lesley Steiner.
