Kirikiriroa - Hamilton Ambassador Programme

Kirikiriroa – Hamilton Ambassador Programme is a course designed for people engaging with visitors who come to Hamilton and the wider Waikato. The purpose is to help create storytellers and ambassadors who can connect with people and authentically engage with what all New Zealanders understand as ‘manaakitanga’ and ‘kaitiakitanga’.

The programme helps to build knowledge of the history, special places and people of Kirikiriroa- Hamilton to proudly share with manuhiri; to extend an understanding of what it takes to authentically connect with visitors, to contribute to the ongoing and future success of Hamilton by providing simple tools to enhance visitor and customer experiences right across the mighty Waikato region.

Participants engage in a three-hour workshop delving into the history and unique stories surrounding the backbone of the city- the Waikato river, including early Māori history and legends, experience of early explorers and European settlers, the Waikato land wars, right through to the exciting regional growth and economy of today.

During this bespoke programme you’ll explore ways to connect, engage authentically and make a real difference to visitors from around NZ and the globe, ensuring they’re left with a highly memorable and lasting impression of the specialness of Kirikiriroa-Hamilton.
