Mercer Art and History Museum

A small museum showcasing the history of Mercer, the Waikato River and the river trade. Situated one minute off the motorway at Mercer on State Highway 1.

Mercer Art and History Museum is just off the motorway in Mercer, exactly opposite the world famous Mercer Cheese Shop.

The artifacts include wonderful photos and a slide show of Mercer as it was when the river was an important trade route, railway station and bustling village.

The museum has been established in memory of Caesar Roose, founder of Roose Shipping Company. He was renowned up and down the river as a businessman, flax and timer miller, entrepreneur, community leader and philanthropist.
