The Taniwha

Held along the banks of the mighty Waikato River, The Taniwha multisport event returns on Saturday 7 November 2020

With native bush, exotic forest, wetland boardwalks, stunning single track, and expansive lake and river views throughout, The Taniwha just never lets up on the scenery.

This event consists of three mountain bike categories and four off-road trail run/walk categories.

Mountain bikers will have a choice of the 16km, 22km, 42.2km across varying sections of the Waikato River Trails taking in the views of Lake Maraetai, Lake Whakamaru and the rural Waikato country side.

The trail run/walk categories include the 7km, 14km, 21.1km half marathon and 42.2km marathon with the tracks crossing swing bridges, passing by Mangakino and taking in native bush.

Event base is the Whakamaru Mi-Camp (Hirurangi Island, 1105 Ongaroto Road (SH30), Kinleith 3491 on Whakamaru Lake).

With lots of different distance options and rolling terrain, The Taniwha is particularly well-suited to all ages and fitness levels.
