Debra Dufty, General Manager - Business Events at Lime & Soda / Vokali - Business Events Waikato

What is your current role?

General Manager - Business Events

What do you enjoy about working at Lime & Soda/Vokali?

I love so many things about my role, and about our business event brands Lime & Soda and Vokali that are part of the Leisure Time Group. But the absolute best part is getting to see a concept or vision I have sold to a client come to life through the hard work of one of our amazing Event Managers.

What was your first job?

Mum and Dad owned a surf shop so I helped them after school. If I recall correctly, I was paid $4.25 an hour and worked a total of five hours a week. Not entirely profitable, however I did get to wear all the cool surf clothes (and nope I can't surf!)

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Happy (Box is well and truly ticked).

What is an achievement or special credential you're really proud of?

Creating and building up the Lime & Soda business over 10+ years whilst juggling the demands of three small children and a husband whose job requires a significant amount of travel. It has been an amazing and challenging journey and looking back I do really wonder how I managed to keep my sanity intact! The recent acquisition of Lime & Soda by the Leisure Time Group was validation for me that I had created a successful business and I am super excited about continuing to build this business alongside the Leisure Time team.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am an unpaid Uber driver for my kids and I also try to go out for a run most days. Any other spare time is spent with family and friends. I love being out and about...can't ever sit still!

What are you most grateful for in your life?

My friends, my family and a positive can-do attitude - which was instilled in me from a very young age.

Who inspires you and why?

My mum. She ran marathons, owned her own business, raised four kids and was just super fun and supportive.

Have you got a favourite aphorism / motto?

There are no problems, only opportunities.
