Feb 19: Welcoming change with the New Year at Castaways Resort

2018 was a big year for Castaways Resort. New owners Marsden Resorts purchased the property from the Shine family mid-year and have already made some exciting improvements. Guests at the resort will notice a refreshed brand on the signage and interiors as well as a sparkling new, fully refurbished restaurant. So it was goodbye to Agave and welcome to Castaways Restaurant & Bar, including new Head Chef, Alit Anggraini.

Resort manager Michal Janalik is enthusiastic about 2019 at Castaways Resort. “Over the last few months we have seen some great changes at Castaways with the investment from our new owners. We head into the New Year with a strong focus on delivering an excellent customer experience all round, from dining at our beautiful new restaurant through to our accommodation and events, all with a fabulous head chef on board.”

Chef Alit brings with her an extensive resume having worked in hotel and resort restaurants in Abu Dhabi, the UAE and throughout Indonesia. These influences are reflected in her unique dishes that draw on her own Indonesian heritage whilst using fresh local produce where possible to ensure a NZ flavour remains on the menu. Her summer menu is currently being served and features entrees such as Salmon Ceviche, and Beef Pallomia, and mains including Lamb Rack served with cous cous and fresh vegetables.

The refurbished restaurants’ interior reflects the rugged beauty of its west coast location. Natural elements, such as the wooden floors, tables and panelling add dimension and make the space feel warm and inviting, without detracting from the spectacular views over Karioitahi Beach that the Resort is known for.

Marketing Manager Marie-Clare Austen is busy promoting the new brand and restaurant on social media and to celebrate the opening of the new restaurant, Castaways is seeking those with a flair for photography for a special competition; “Submit your amazing shots of Karioitahi Beach into our competition and the lucky winners image will be selected as the large scale feature photograph to adorn our new restaurant’s entrance wall; I can’t wait to see all the beautiful shots come flooding in”. There are two ways to enter the competition, either email the photograph directly through to marketing@castaways.co.nz, or tag Castaways Resort in the photo on Facebook or Instagram and include the hashtag #castawaysphotocomp2019. Castaways will select three finalists with the winning entry chosen by way of a public vote on Facebook.

Plans are in the pipeline to continue the programme of refurbishment and upgrade to other areas of the Resort in 2019 and 2020. The Glam-camping area of the business remains under the ownership of Serena Shine and the property continues to be managed by Capstone Hotels & Resorts.
